Below is a list of class offerings for the 2010-2011 school year. Not all classes are offered every term. Spring Classes are marked as FALL 2010, with offered times noted for each age group. Fall 2010 registration forms can be found here. 4-in-1 Crafts - Let your child explore his/her creative side with the many different projects that the PCH provides. Imagine all arts and crafts classes put into one class. Children can do anything from drawing, painting, building and much more!!! This class will let your child's imagination run wild. Adult and Youth Volunteer Corps. - We are seeking volunteer adults and teenagers to supervise and officiate for various activities. The involvement requires two(2) 2 1/2 hours per week for after school activities. The PCH full-time staff will train all volunteers. No experience necessary, only game knowledge for those interested in officiating. Afterschool Snacks - Want to make sure your child is eating healthy snacks? We will make snacks that not only will be healthy, but also taste great and are easy to prepare. Arena Soccer - He Shoots..He Scores!!! Goallllllll....Goalllllllll. This is what your children could experience if they were to join this awesome indoor style soccer class. Your children will learn the basics from offense to defense and of course the basic techniques needed in order to play the game of soccer. Don't miss out on your chance to score a goal. As Cute as a Button FALL 2010 K&1: Tue 4:30 - Get glam with a few buttons!! Who would think that a simple button can be turned into so many cool things! Bracelets, earrings, pins, rings and much more. Backyard Football FALL 2010 K&1: Thu 4:30 - What makes great football players is the basics. Come and learn the fundamentals of football from how to throw, catch and run with a football along with the rules of the game. Baseball Skills with Anthony - What makes great baseball players is the basics. Anthony will take your child step by step, teaching them the fundamentals of baseball, from fielding a ball to swinging a bat. Beads, Lanyards and More! - Summer Camp's HOT Arts and Crafts activity is ready to heat up the school year! Children will have the opportunity to create and design key chains, bracelets, necklaces, anklets, rings, alligators, lobsters, snakes, dogs, cats, lions and much more with beads and lanyards. Fun stuff. Don't miss out! Big Hoops - Think you can be the next Kobe Bryant? Big Hoops will teach you the proper techniques and skills needed to become a basketball superstar. Sign up now and before the roster fills up! Capture the Flag FALL 2010 K&1: Thu 3:45; 2Up: Thu 4:30 - Want to be the one to capture the flag? Well, now you can. Children of all ages can now participate in one of the greatest games of all that is made for everyone to enjoy. Capture the other team's flag without being caught, and bring it home to your own base for the victory. Carpentry FALL 2010 K&1: Tue 4:30; 2Up: Tue 3:45 - In this class your child will be able to build great projects such as wooden tables, picture frames, and even wooden cars. With the help of our instructors your child will be a great helping hand around the house in no time. Beginner Carpentry and Carpentry projects will be modified based on skill and age. Ceramic Figurines - Join us and have your child color, paint, and put together their very own ceramic figurine. Projects will consist of many different types of ceramic figurines for your children to choose from. Don't miss out!!! Chocolate Lover's Delight FALL 2010 K&1: Wed 4:30; 2Up: Wed 3:45 - This cooking class features recipes all with one common ingredient - Chocolate! Yum!! Did I say "Yum"? Yes, I did, and I dare say it again. Yum!!! Clay Sculpting - Are you ready to have some fun? Clay Sculpting is a brand new class that we are bringing to Purchase. Don't miss out. Your child will learn the theory and basic techniques of clay sculpting. This is a hands-on class working with tools and getting messy. Color a Cookie - Looking for something sweet and fun? You will certainly find it here. We have taken the classic cookie treat and combined it with our wildest ideas of creativity and enjoyment. Enjoy innovative Color-a-Cookie kits deliciously hand decorated with all of today's most popular characters! Color Me - Color Me is a fun, exciting class at the PCH!! Sign up and we will send your son or daughter home with vibrantly colored banners, frames, umbrellas, hats, head bands and much, much more!!! Color Me Ceramics - Color Me Ceramics is the ART of HAVING FUN! Your child will color, paint, and put together their very own ceramic figurine each week. Projects will consist of many different types of ceramic figurines for your children to choose from) Don't miss out!!! Come out & Clay FALL 2010 K&1: Tue 3:45 - Do you like science? Do you like cooking? Using ingredients such as flour, applesauce, salt, water, coffee grinds, sawdust and many more, we will combine the two to make a variety of different kinds of dough and clay to sculpt, mold, and play with. Cooking (Top Chef, Skillet Creations, What's Cooking?, Malt Shop Favorites, Make your own Afterschool Snacks, Sweet Treats) - Children will learn to cook all types of food with the supervision of our own personal PCH chef. They will learn how to cook everything from desserts to entrees. Learning to cook will bring nothing but a smile to your child's face after they see what they have created. Comic Book Making - Children will develop skills in reading, writing, brainstorming and conceptualizing ideas by creating artwork that allows them to draw on their own personal experiences. After developing their own superhero, your child will design their very own comic book. Computer Club - Computer Club is an extraordinary computer class with amazing state of the art computers. This class will give each child the experience and knowledge to explore the vast world of computers through various learning programs and games. Crafty Cooking - Who ever said that you can't play with your food? In this class you can. In Crafty Cooking we will be making crafts projects that use foods as the main intgredient - Gingerbread Houses, Chewy Necklaces, Bracelets and Play Dough. Children will be supervised by our very own PCH kitchen guru. Digital Photography FALL 2010 K&1: Wed 3:45 & Fri 3:45; 2Up: Wed 4:30 & Fri 4:30 - 1,2,3, Say cheese!!! In this class children will become more familiar with using a digital camera. They will be able to print out the pictures and create projects such as buttons, pins, paper weights, and much more. Dinosaurs come to Life -
Step aside bone diggers and fossil hunters! Dinosaurs may be extinct,
but not in this class!!! Dinosaurs are coming back to life!!! We will
be learning about dinosaurs, creating our own dinosaurs and creating dino
eggs that have a surprise inside.
Fashion Divas FALL 2010 K&1: Mon 4:30 & Fri 4:30; 2Up: Mon 3:45 & Fri 3:45 - Fashion is fun at any age and in this class we will be designing and making our own clothes and accessories that can be worn and shown off. Your child's inner fashion will shine!!! Fitness Fun for Girls - This GIRLS ONLY (sorry boys) action filled class will get girls going both indoors and out! Girls will participate in numerous activities to get them moving and motivated to be active along with making healthy choices. Activities include hula hoops, jump ropes, hopscotch, relay and plasma races and much more. A healthy homework assignment will add to the fun of developing a healthy lifestyle. Flag Football - Blue 42, Blue 42, Set, Hike!!! Come and play flag football with Frank. Learn the fundamentals of how the game should be played, and have fun playing football. Floor Hockey - This fast paced, high flying, glove saving, goal scoring, kick saving, rebound tucking class gives the participants a good old game of hockey. Forensic Science - Join Barbara Paci in her new class, Forensic Science. Learn about crime scene investigation with hands on activities, looking for clues and uncovering finger prints, just like Sherlock Holmes used to do. Friday Night Youth Program - click for in-depth description FALL 2010 Funky Foam Crafts - Door Hangers, mirrors, key chains, books, science goggles, locker pennants and more will be made in this class using colorful foam sheets and cut outs. Ga-Ga Ball FALL 2010 Everyone: Tue 3:45; Wed 4:30 - Ga-Ga Ball is a dynamic court game that is fun to play and exciting to watch. Ga-Ga is a popular game played with a nerf-ball in a wide space. It is a game that can be played by people of all ages and is a lot of fun. The object of the game is to strike the ball only using your hands. You are eliminated if a the ball hits below your knees. This game is extremely popular at summer camps. Grandma's Kitchen - What old fashioned recipes will be find in Grandma's cookbook? Grandma's secret recipes have escaped from her cookbook into our very own PCH kitchen? In this class your child will be baking all traditional and seasonal pies, treats, foods, cookies and much more. Children will be supervised by our very own kitchen guru. Hole-In-One Mini Golf FALL 2010 K&1: Mon 3:45; Everyone: Wed 3:45 - This "Hole in One" class offers a fun opportunity to putt around and learn at the same time on our very own 18 hole "LeBlanc Links" miniature golf course. Homerun Derby - Think you can hit it farther than A-Rod? Step up to the plate and try your best to knock one over the fence. Wiffleballs and Tennis Balls will be used. Homework Club FALL 2010 - For grades 1-8, this program is designed to assist children with their daily homework assignments. Supervised by our after school teachers, the program will meet Monday through Thursday with 2 sessions daily (3:45 & 4:30 PM). Emphasis will be place on organizational skills, attending to tasks, spelling, vocabulary, math concepts, reading comprehension, and library research. All work will be based on each child's daily homework requirements. A snack and juice will be provided. Children may choose which sessions to attend and stay until their work is completed. The fee permits unlimited use of "The Club. for the term" The Homework Club will be in session when classes are in session only. Jewelry Making FALL 2010 K&1: Tue 4:30; 2Up: Tue 3:45 - Summer camp's HOT Arts and Crafts activity is ready to heat up the school year!! Children will create and design key chains, bracelets, necklaces, anklets and rings. Jr. Chefs - Our little chefs will be making a variety of meals that can be eaten for breakfast, lunch, dinner or dessert. Your child will learn how to grate, chop, scoop, pour and measure out ingredients. Just Cookies FALL 2010 K&1: Mon 3:45; 2Up: Mon 4:30 - You can always tell it's Just Cookies day by the sugary aroma wafting through the Community House!! Kids love making, rolling, baking, and, of course, eating various types of cookies. Children will be supervised by our very own PCH kitchen guru. Just Desserts FALL 2010 K&1: Thu 4:30; 2Up: Thu 3:45 - The name says it all! We will be making all your favorite sweet tooth dishes that we all love. Not only will we enjoy making our desserts, we will especially enjoy eating them!!! Mmmmm I just LOVE it!!! Children will be supervised by our very own PCH kitchen guru. Kickball FALL 2010 Everyone: Fri 4:30 - The Arena Kickball Game. Kaboom!!! Matball has arrived! This popular PCH ultimate kickball game is ready to pump you up! It is the wackiest, funniest, fast-paced kickball game you'll ever play! Four large mats are set in each corner of the gymnasium used as bases. Player must run around bases two times to score without getting out. Class size is limited so don't make the third out! Knitting 1 2 3 - Knitting 1 2 3 is designed to allow "hands on" experience with knitting needles and practice basic knitting knots. Your child will learn how to get started and start off with knitting a scarf just in time for the winter season. This is a beginner class. Madden Nation - Gear yourself up for Madden Nation. Who will be crowned the Madden Champion? Every week will have tournament games set up and the winner from each class will move to the finals. Make your own Quilt - Join us and make an amazing project for family and friends! Come have fun creating your very own quilt. Children will work on their quilt for all 8 weeks. Skills emphasized will be working with a needle, stitching, coloring, and design. Matball - The Arena Kickball Game. Kaboom!!! Matball has arrived! This popular PCH ultimate kickball game is ready to pump you up! It is the wackiest, funniest, fast-paced kickball game you'll ever play! Messy Cooking - Cooking is made easy with your hands. Be prepared to make a mess of the kitchen. Throughout the years of cooking, there have always been those kids who think and say "Oh that's Gross!"... This is the class for them!! Children will be making foods that may look gross and feel a little sticky, but mmmm does it taste great!! Children will be supervised by our very own PCH kitchen guru. Mini Hoops - Have you ever heard of Lebron James? What made him great was the basics, and that is what we will be teaching you. Mini Hoops is played in our auditorium using our mini basketball hoops, perfect size for the little ones. Learn the basic techniques of how to dribble, pass and shoot. With these skills you will be on your way to becoming a better basketball player in no time!!! Mish Mosh Crafts - Let your child explore his/her creative side with the many different projects that the PCH will provide. They could do anything from drawing, painting, building, and much more!!! This class will let your child's imagination run wild. Model Mania - You can now build models the old school way with plastic, glue and paints. You can build airplanes like an F-15, movie monsters like Godzilla, hot rods like Anthony's car, monster trucks, superheroes like Spiderman and Dinosaurs like T-Rex. Mosaic Tile Making - Want your children to become crafty and creative? Here is the perfect chance for them to explore their imagination. Your children will be able to build and put together projects such as picture frames, a miniature night stand table with mosaic top, and much more!!! Mythbusters - Discover Channel's Mythbusters finds the truth behind urban legends using scientific method and plenty of curiousity and ingenuity. In Mythbusters we will find the answers to these questions: Will air help your bones predict the weather? Do rockets launch best when they run out of gas? Will you find hot water on the north pole? Needlepoint - Join us and make amazing projects for family and friends! Skills emphasized will be working with a needle, weaving techniques, stitches, and design. Teams are divided up equally by our TEAM Members for each class. Ooey Gooey Science SPRING 2010 K&1: Mon 4:30 & Fri 4:30 - Join Barbara Paci in Ooey Gooey Science... Do you like making messes? Sign up for the ultimate hands on science fun experience. Your child will be experimenting with gooey worms, slime, and all the icky, sticky good that we can find. Origami - Origami is a traditional Japanese practice dating back to the 17th century. With only paper, your child will learn how to create many different kids of sculptures using many different folding techniques. Origami is a valuable cultural art form designed to challenge, excite and educate your child. Paint your "Art" out FALL 2010 K&1: Mon 3:45; 2Up Mon 4:30 - Let your child explore his/her creative side with the many different projects that the PCH will provide. They could do anything from drawing, painting, building, and much more!!! This class will let your child's imagination run wild. Painting under the Table - Let your child explore their creative side while painging using a variety of techniques. One technique is lying on your back. If Michelangelo could do it so can your child. Just lay back, relax, have a blast and spatter a mess while painting under the table. PCH News - EXTRA! EXTRA! Read all about it!! This class will teach your child the basics of newsletter writing, interviewing and photo design. Children will interview each other, TEAM Members, and put together a newspaper. PGA Golf FALL 2010 3Up: Mon 4:30 & Fri 4:30 - This is NOT a Mini Golf class... PGA Golf is an instructional golf class to help fine tune your golf swing! No matter what level of skill, beginner, intermediate, expert, sign up now, this class will fill fast. FOUR!!! Pizza Pizza!!! FALL 2010 K&1: Tue 4:30; 2Up: Tue 3:45 - Mamma Mia, I love PIzza Pizza. In Pizza Pizza, children will learn to make their own!! Each week will be a different type of pizza - traditional, salad pizza, dessert pizza, pita pizzas. The possibilities are endless and yummy. Children will be supervised by our very own PCH kitchen guru. Plaster Crafts - Let's get messy and have some fun! Use plaster of paris & gauze to create masks, magnets, pins and many other decorative adornments. Your child will have a great time learning to cast, set & finalize their works of art. Popsicle Crafts - Ice Pops are a kid's favorite cool, refreshing snack to eat. In Popsicle Crafts your child will create art using popsicle sticks and an ice pop or two to enjoy while creating art to bring home and enjoy. Rocketry - This awesome class will feature class projects about...ROCKETS. Have your child build their own rocket from scratch and be able to launch their rocket for an achievement of a lifetime. Sneaky Chef - We all know how difficult it can be to get your child to eat their fruits and veggies or to curb their sweet tooth. In Sneaky Chef, we will use healthy ingredients that are good for you and tast great too!! Children will be supervised by our very own PCH kitchen guru. Soap Scents - Soap Scents is fun and simple to do. This class is a combination of soap and candle making. Your child will be melting bees wax and blocks of soap to mold and sculpt their very own candles and soap sculptures to bring home. This is a fun, sticky and wonderful smelling time so sign up now for SOAP SCENTS! Soap Stone Carving FALL 2010 2Up: Tue 4:30 - Children will learn the theory and basic techniques of stone carving. Soap Stone will be used. This is a soft stone that is easy to carve. Once the projects are completed, we will place them in the oven to harden and add a nice shine. Come have fun creating seasonal decorations and gifts. Skills emphasized will be working with a needle, weaving techniques, stitches, and design. Make a pillow, or maybe even stuffed pets or a vest to keep your dog or cat warm. Gain new skills while making beautiful keepsakes. Street Hockey - This fast paced, high flying, glove saving, goal scoring, kick saving, rebound tucking class gives the participants a good old game of hockey. Sweet Treats - The name says it all! We will be making sweet treats that your children and you will love. Not only will we enjoy making out treats we will especially enjoy eating them! Tasty Treats - In Tasty Treats your child will be making yummy treats that we all love from scratch and some will be made from a tasty do it yourself kit. Includes: Sour sweets, gummies, rock candy, chocolates, bubble gum and many more Tasty Treats! Fun for all in this sticky delicious class. Tasty Science Cooking FALL 2010 K&1: Fri 3:45; 2Up: Fri 4:30 - Create, taste and discover! In Tasty Science your child will whip up their very own tasty concoctions. Every wonder what makes cupcakes rise? What makes drinks fizz? What makes rock candy such a fun treat? All these food phenomenons and more will be discovered when you take on science in the kitchen! Tennis FALL 2010 K&1: Tue 4:30 & Thu 4:30; 2Up: Tue 3:45 & Thu 3:45 - Beginner Instructional Tennis offered to all ages. Classes will be taught by tennis expert Cathy Moore. Don't miss out on this fantastic class where your children are in a fun, low key, non-competitive atmosphere. Team Handball - Team handball is a dynamic court game that is fun to play and exciting to watch. It is a fast and smooth game with the ball traveling up and down the court. Handball is similar to soccer but you only play with your hands. You can only take three steps and then pass, dribble or bounce the ball to your teammate. Tie Dye Art FALL 2010 K&1: Wed 4:30; 2Up: Wed 3:45 - Join us and have the chance to display your very own artistic creation on your very own personalized t-shirt. Children will design t-shirts using iron-on designs, tie dye, and much more!!! Each week a new article of clothing will be tie dyed. Weird Science FALL 2010 2Up: Mon 3:45 & Fri 3:45 - Join Barbara Paci in an exploration of the wonders of science. Emphasis will be placed on using simple experiments to teach basic scientific concepts. What's an atom? What makes a volcano erupt? Get the low "down" on gravity. These are just a few of the things for our future scientists to think about. Yoga Fun 4 Kids

postures and poses that Yoga has to offer. Yoga is not just stretching
but creating balance in the body through both strength and flexibility.
